Lasik Eye Surgery Montreal
Why do the Laservue doctors exclusively perform LASIK?
Our Montreal clinic exclusively performs LASIK surgery because LASIK eye surgery is the most advanced optical surgery technique available. Our clinical experience has led us to advocate LASIK over surface ablation in nearly all cases of myopia, astigmatism and hyperopia. Since January 1996, we have been performing only LASIK, in our Montreal clinic with only the rare exception of cases where Lasik is contra-indicated for a particular reason. (Typically this is people with abnormally thin corneas, or certain uncommon forms of corneal surface problems.)Lasik Eye Surgery Advantages
The many advantages of LASIK include:
- Much less chance of infection (In thousands of surgeries, Montreal-based Laservue has never had a single infection with LASIK surgery).
- No scarring - LASIK eye surgery is so precise that scarring is virtually eliminated.
- Very little post-operative discomfort. Patients may report a scratchy feeling for 2-4 hours. By contrast, surface ablation can bring an excruciating pain for 3-4 days following the eye surgery.
- Much more rapid recovery of vision. Most patients opt for bilateral surgery, both eyes at the same session. This never happens in surface ablation, where the quality of vision takes at least a week to return. This alone is a distinct advantage for patients traveling a long way to our Montreal LASIK clinic: 2 trips or a prolonged stay are unnecessary. This rapid recovery with minimal discomfort has truly revolutionized the refractive surgery experience for our patients - including those from Montreal as well as from outside Montreal, from other parts of Canada, the US, or international locations.
- Better quality of vision. Studies show that patients who have had PRK in one eye and LASIK in the other invariably prefer the LASIK eye.
- PRK, LASEK and LASIK will sometimes require enhancements to achieve the desired correction. Enhancement after LASIK is significantly safer, easier to perform, and more predictable in its effect.
Over 75,000 Lasik Surgeries Performed
Research shows that LASIK has only very rare drawbacks, all of which are virtually eliminated with experience and meticulous surgical technique. As of March 2006, Laservue's Montreal LASIK eye surgery clinic have experience with over 75,000 LASIK surgeries, meaning that you are in the best of hands - in fact among the best not just in Canada - but the best in North America, and the world.
On the very rare occasions where there are drawbacks with LASIK surgery, these have been reported to include:
- Improper creation of the flap by the keratome, in which case surgery should be delayed. Laservue has seen this occur in only 1/1000 cases, and in none of these cases was the vision affected
- The patient will rarely rub their eye and dislodge the flap before it seals itself in the first 12 hours after surgery. The flap can easily be re-positioned. Laservue Montreal has seen this in less than 1/1000 cases.
- The flap interface can rarely become inflamed requiring topical steroid drops.
