Custom Wavefront Lasik FAQs
Each human eye has a unique optical system which is much more complex than that corrected by your glasses or contact lenses. These devices assume a constant prescription across the pupil (entrance) of the eye. In reality, the pupil is composed of many different points, all of which bend light in a slightly different way. These inequalities result in visual aberrations (for example halos around street lights, etc….). Custom Wavefront LASIK has been designed to measure and correct these aberrations which are unique to each eye, just like a fingerprint. This technology is similar to that used to correct the optical defects of the Hubble Space telescope.Custom Wavefront technology is truly the next quantum leap in LASIK. It offers the ability to correct or significantly reduce the optical aberrations of a given eye's visual system. In essence, this technology may permit us to improve on mother nature: eyeglasses or contact lenses correct most normal eyes to 20/20 or 20/15. If one eliminates the optical aberrations, it is possible to correct the eye to the resolution limit of the retina at the back of the eye, i.e. 20/10 or 20/8.
In 2001 Laservue was the first clinic in the East, and the second in Canada to invest in this exciting technology. The Laservue team will select the best technology for your eyes.
